When I am in a conversation with someone, I’m always on the lookout for a topic that interests them. When I stumble across something that peaks their interest, I know it because they will raise their eyebrows.
If I want to show someone that I’m engaged in the conversation and interested in what they’re saying, I will raise my eyebrows.
The Eyebrow Raise and Recognition
When we recognize someone we will raise our eyebrows (and smile if we like them). I leverage this at networking events. If I want someone to approach me, I will smile at them and raise my eyebrows. Since this is a nonverbal cue of recognition, they often assume that they know me and they will come and talk to me.
